Initially begun in 1966 as a classified Program, the US Army sent*
teams to Burma to be trained by the British in the practice of*
combat tracking and using dogs as a practical method of assisting*
in this obejctive. They consisted of five men and a dog, usually*
a labrador retriever (this is represented by the unit's vision).*
*
Starting in February 1968, the teams were declassified and renamed*
as either Infantry Platoon Combat Tracker (IPCT) or Infantry Detachment*
Combat Tracker (IDCT) supposedly depending on the size of the force*
they were supposed to be attached to. Teams were attached at either*
the Platoon or Company level to various infantry outfits all over*
Vietnam.*
*
Instead of creating seperate formations for each infantry formation*
type that might have had a team attached, they are provided as*
independant units, which is perhaps more realistic.*
